Father was the head of a commercial business. Family lived at Poska Ulica, Maribor, Slovenia

Eldest of three boys with two sisters.

Education was at a Gymnasium in Ljubljana, Slovenia and entered a seminary there in 1945. He was ordained priest in October 1950, where he studied from 1945 to 1953, at the Gregorian University, and as a member of the German-Hungarian College.

He was accepted by Peter van Gestel, Assistant of the Northern German Province. He was assigned to the Japanese Province and sent to ireland for Novitiate.
