Came with three others (Charles Petre, Joseph Plowden and Matthew Wright) under former ANG Provincial, John Warner, in 1689-1690 and was a Missioner in Ireland, Fr Warner as Confessor, the others in schools, and preaching in the country

POULTON, ANDREW, admitted 31st October, 1674, aet. 20. He was selected for one of the Masters of the Savoy College, London, which was opened at Whitsuntide, 1687. That he was a man of distinguished abilities is manifest from the Tracts entitled “Remarks upon Dr. Tenison’s narrative (of their conference) with a confutation of the Doctor s Rule of Faith, and a reply to A. Cresner s Vindication, 4to London, 1687. Also “Some Reflections upon the Author and Licenser of a scandalous pamphlet, called The Missionaries art Discovered with the reply of A. Pulton to a challenge made him in a Letter prefixed to the said Pamphlet”, 4to. London, 1688, pp. 14. At the Revolution, he followed the Court to St. Germaine. In the Annual Letters of 1705, I read of his exploits there “76 ab Heeresi ad Eccltsiam reduxit, inter quos non pauci natalibus conspicui: plusquam 116 Confessiones Generates in ea aula audivit. In Dissidia, quae etiam luctuosum finem. habitura timebantur, prolapsus 12 plene inter se conciliavit. Et pauperum vere Patur dicitur et habetur, ita perpetua dies noctesque industria illis procurat necessaria Egestatis levamina”.
This truly zealous and benevolent Father died at St. Germain, universally regretted, on the 5th of August, 1710, aet. 58.
