In his letter he refers to the "Education Society" in Kildare Place - known as the Kildare Place School - who received government funding of £6,000 per annum, "to educate the Irish poor without distinction of sect or persuasion and employ the money in the most scandalous attempts at proselytism". He asks for Mr Bacon's support in ensuring that this situation is no longer allowed to continue.
