Copy of letter from Fr Patrick Hughes SJ, writing from St Francis Xavier's, Upper Gardiner Street, Dublin to Fr William McCartan. Thanks the latter for purchasing the two milch cows, but explains that his (Hughes’) superior, the Provincial Fr Brown, did not want the two store heifers that were purchased at the same time, and that he had already made this fact clear to Fr McCartan. Sends the latter a cheque for the cows.

A file relating to Fr James Whitaker SJ. Includes biographical details and information on his family (family history written in 1895 by James Whitaker, Senior) including his brother (Br Francis de Sales Whitaker O.S.J.D, M.B. (Co-founder of the House of St John of God, Stillorgan, County Dublin).

Letter from James Whitaker (father), writing from Mooresfort, County Tipperary to Fr Patrick Hughes SJ. Encloses a cheque for £15 to cover his son James Whitaker’s half-yearly pension (not included). Adds that his son Frank is in Clongowes, and that he intends to send another son there (2pp, 25 May 1887).

Letter from Fr William McCartan to Fr Patrick Hughes SJ. States that he is not satisfied with the latter's letter, and claims that he had told Fr Brown that he intended to purchase five heifers. Complains that he was never treated in such a manner before.

Letter from Fr William McCartan, writing from the Parochial House, Dromore, County Down, to Fr Patrick Hughes SJ. Objects to the latter having found fault with his purchase of cattle for Fr Hughes’ community, and claims that he would profit by the purchase.

From [ ], writing from St Ignatius College, Galway, to Fr Patrick Hughes SJ. Presents accounts, including amounts due to Mrs Meagher and Mrs Butler. (Incomplete).

Holograph letter from Patrick Maxwell of 37, North Great George's Street, Dublin to Fr Patrick Hughes SJ. Reports that he met with Mr. [Montfort], and it was agreed that Fr Hughes/the Society would pay off the entire amount. Adds that he had a [ ] deed prepared.

A file of letters from S. P. Redington, solicitors concerning the estate of Fr John Errington SJ. Refers to the will of George A. Nicolls (Fr Errington was named, amongst others, as one of the beneficiaries of this will and ultimately came to inherit the estates in Kildare and Westmeath. George A. Nicolls died without issue and his estate passed to his brother Archibald Dowdell Nicolls. The latter also died without issue and the estate was inherited by Fr John Errington SJ).
